The increasing digitization of our lives has profoundly changed the way we access and consume information. In this context, the notions of learning and skills acquisition are no exception and also benefit from new opportunities offered by digital. In view of these elements, the digital is inviting in schools and complements the traditional teaching patterns that we know.
Disseminate knowledge on a large scale
First of all, we can rejoice at the simplicity of access to the various resources that allow us to integrate new skills and knowledge on the web. At this level, it is still important to differentiate between the sources used, the quality of which, if not the veracity in some cases, may leave something to be desired. In this context, it is interesting to check who is at the origin of the proposed content (privileging open community initiatives carried out at the initiative of teachers is a guarantee of quality.) This point being made, we notice all the same that many professional and serious initiatives have made it possible to disseminate quality information in many formats: interactive textbooks, videos, etc.
How digital has created new collaborative ways of working
Beyond the simplicity of access to content, another point to consider is the uses offered by digital, particularly in terms of collaboration. So, whether in the classroom or at home, students can work dynamically, individually or in groups, and interact effectively. They can also communicate better with teachers, who also benefit from many contributions: creation of tailor-made teaching sequences, statistics on the level of students, etc. So many practical tools to give a new impetus to his mode of teaching.
Finally, we must also mention the students’ appetite for digital tools that can make them want to learn more easily. In this sense, the notion of format and UX is fundamental and is positioned as a real lever of motivation and attractiveness to learn better.
The digital, which should not be opposed to paper and face-to-face, is therefore an interesting complement to reinforce the notion of acquiring skills in the world of education. Its growth should therefore be sustained in the light of the previously mentioned elements and the willingness of the public authorities to position digital technology as a central brick within the new modes of learning in schools, colleges and high schools.
